About Us :
BSARC has been formed as an organization to struggle for the rights (both as citizens and as workers) of the slum and pavement dwelling people in Kolkata and its surroundings. It started its journey in 2016.
We believe that our dream for proper citizen and workplace rights of the slum dwellers can be attained only through broad social movements and social transformation. Without the real participation of the slum dwellers, no such struggling movement can proceed a single step. Constructive spaces of broad social solidarity are much needed for that pursuit. Some of us have had experiences of running schools (both for children and adults) in some slum areas for a few years. We aim to develop a regular as well as a sustainable mechanism to create spaces inside the slums where besides regular class room teaching, an atmosphere of collective dialogic learning can be created from inside through drawing, singing, dancing, physical exercises, cinema shows etc activities. The solidarity school as a space is nothing but a dialogic expression of the will of collective well-being, a space for nurturing co-operative action amid severe competitive atmosphere resulting from the scarcity of material resources in the slums. In essence, the idea of solidarity schools is inseparable from the collective struggle for rights of the slum/pavement dwelling toiling people. know more..
